A FORMER Warwick School boy turned politician, with lasting ties to the area, now has his own blue plaque in Leamington.
Baron Fred Mulley was a senior labour politician and, eventually, a member of the House of Lords.
He attended Warwick School, which has a tie named in his honour.
The Mulley tie gives scholarly recognition to those pupils whose academic work far exceeds the requirements of A Level. For exceptional intellectual endeavour and achievement, a Mulley bowtie may be awarded.
The Blue Plaques Group, with the help of Warwick and Leamington MP Matt Western’s office, were able to track down Fred’s two daughters, both still living in Leamington.
Both Corinne and Deirdre Mulley were present at the unveiling ceremony at the Spar shop in Clemens Street, as was the town’s mayor Alan Boad, Mr Western, head of Warwick School James Barker, two senior tutors and four ‘Mulley Tie Boys’.
