A DRIVER had a lucky escape after smashing into a bridge on the road between Leamington and Kenilworth.
A car and a van were involved in a crash at Chesford Bridge around 2.30pm on Monday (March 16). The car had spun and demolished the wall of the bridge over the Avon.
The car driver, believed to be in his late 60s, received treatment at the scene for facial injuries before being taken to Warwick Hospital for further treatment.
A West Midlands Ambulance spokesman said: “Considering the damage to the wall the driver of the car is fortunate not to have gone through it into the river below down a drop of around 25 feet.”
The van driver, believed to be in his 20s, received treatment for a hand injury but did not need to go to hospital.
