Guide to Leamington's Old Town to help students

A GUIDE to Leamington’s Old Town has been created as part of the Portas Project.

The new guide called ‘The Junction’ will be available for free throughout the town and given to students moving to the area to help them make best use of local shops and facilities.

Television personality Mary Portas is known for helping struggling businesses and high streets and her Portas Project, which was launched back in 2012, aims to help businesses in towns grow.

Old Town Team executive member Jay Nagra said: “Many new cafes, restaurants and vegan outlets have opened up since the Portas project started, and there is now a vibrant café and pavement culture evolving on Clemens Street and Regent Place, which is great for the creative workers and students who live and work in Old Town.”

Project leader Jeremy Ireland has already seen the project gain momentum with the opening of four 24-hour cash machines in Old Town in two years.

He said: “You no longer need to leave the area to get money to spend in the many restaurants and bars, and this helps keep people on the local circuit.”

The guide is recognisable by its large pink heart-shaped logo and street art themes.
