Leamington baker needs your dough for charity

A BAKER from Leamington is looking to ‘rise’ cash man when he swaps bread for a bicycle.

Ray Savage, owner of Savi’s Bakery, is set to cycle nearly 1,000 miles from Lands End to John O’Groats to raise money for Headway Coventry and Warwickshire which supports people affected by brain injury.

The 56 year-old has been in training for nine months and is hoping to raise £2,000. He will be joined on the road by his son Alex Cook and friends Steve Bowen and Jamie Kirk.

Ray first became involved with charity five years ago when his wife Carol began helping run acquired brain injury courses while working at Warwickshire College.

He said: “The devastating effects of brain injury are complex and can affect anyone at any time. Headway Coventry and Warwickshire is there to support both survivors of brain injury and their carers.

“As our cycling expedition draws closer, we are beginning to realise that cycling more than 100 miles per day for nine days now seems rather daunting!

“Knowing that we are pedaling for such an important and local cause will hopefully give us the determination we need to keep going.

“Support from the community and our customers at our bakery and cafe has been incredible so far, and everything we raise will go to help us to expand support services for local survivors of brain injury and their families.”
