Schoolkids sleep rough to sample homelessness

Leamington Editorial 13th Jun, 2016 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

A NIGHT of sleeping rough gave pupils a taste of what it is like to be homeless.

Some 100 Warwick School boys swapped their beds for cardboard boxes in the school grounds to raise money for charity Helping Hands.

They were challenged to create their own cardboard box shelter, making it as waterproof as possible with plastic bags and tape – luckily for them good weather was on their side.

Headteacher Gus Lock served soup and a late night chapel service was held reflecting on the work of the Leamington-based Helping Hands. The Year 7’s are hoping to have raised over £2,000.
