THE ‘SHABBY’ village hall in Norton Lindsey could be knocked down and rebuilt.
The hall on Main Street was put up in 1964 by villagers who volunteered their time.
But an application to demolish and rebuild the timber structure has been submitted to Warwick District Council as it is falling into disrepair.
The building currently seats 80 and is used by the WI and a number of clubs – including the Norton Lindsey Stilton Sniffers.
Peter Woolford who submitted the application says if plans were given the green light it would increase seating to 120 and contain a main hall, committee room, kitchen, bar area and a dressing room for cabaret acts.
The application reads: “The existing building is shabby and is showing its age and is obviously in need of replacement or a comprehensive overhaul.
“As the condition of the hall deteriorates fewer and fewer villagers are likely to hire the facility in the future.
“The subsequent reduction in income for maintenance and repair would suggest that the hall in its present condition does not have a real and sustainable future.”
