Demolished Printworks to be rebuilt as affordable flats

Leamington Editorial 3rd Oct, 2017   0

A DEMOLISHED former printworks will be rebuilt as affordable flats, costing nearly £2million to build.

Warwick Printing’s original site on Theatre Street moved to Caswell Road in 2003, leaving the building derelict.

It was demolished earlier this year to make way for 39 new rental properties.

Waterloo Housing Group and Warwick District Council are developing the former printworks along with the adjacent Falcon Motors. They plan to create six one-bedroom flats and 33 two-bedroom flats. They have been funded thanks to a £1.5million government grand and £250,000 from the district council.

The rental homes will be allocated to people through the council’s letting scheme.

Spokesman for housing, coun Peter Phillips said: “The Printworks have lain vacant for many years; a blot on Warwick’s landscape. Working together, Warwick District Council and Waterloo Housing will be bringing forward these 39 new homes with associated parking and open space.

“This initiative is the latest development under the partnership with Waterloo which sees hundreds of new affordable homes being built for the residents of Warwick District.”
