Former Myton students return to school 50 years after it opened

FORMER Myton students headed back to school 50 years after it first opened its doors.

The school was formed in 1968 after Oken High School for Boys and Beauchamp High School for Girls – both of which had occupied the current site on Myton Road – merged.

And to celebrate its 50th anniversary, those who were at the school during its first two decades were invited back for a tour and to meet current staff and students.

One of the first students to attend to the school, Anne Horsley, said: “Fifty years ago we began our Myton High School journey. I loved every minute. Despite the high standards of discipline and dress – perhaps because of it – we learned respect, resilience and diligence. We earned success academically, in sport and in musical theatre, taking these qualities beyond school into the workplace, where we were welcomed and advanced.”

And current headteacher Andy Perry was on hand at the event to hear some the former student’s memories of the school.

He said: “I would like to thank everyone who joined us to mark Myton’s 50th birthday.

“Members of the school community, both past and present, had a great evening. It was touching to see people meeting up for the first time in 30 years or so and reminiscing about their school days.”
