Warwick company and council staff ensure 'the wrong trousers' won't go to waste

OVER 1,000 pairs of trousers have been donated to homeless charities and a shelter in Warwick.

Rather than returning a surplus stock of work-wear, Warwick-based manufacturing company Leadec has donated the trousers to the council-run William Wallsgrove House, as well as local charities including the Salvation Army and Helping Hands.

The donation came about after a chance meeting between district council housing spokesperson Jan Matecki and a company member. Arrangements were made for delivery after which the trousers will be divided between the organisations.

Coun Matecki said: “This type of gesture, really can make a big difference. I want to thank Leadec for their very practical donation which will benefit some of the most vulnerable in our society.”

A Leadec spokesperson added: “In our process of reviewing our supply base which has altered due to the covid-19 pandemic, we identified that we were holding surplus stock of old workwear, which is no longer current specification. We’re delighted that a member of our staff used her initiative to find a positive use for these products. We, at Leadec, hope that the distribution of the garments to local homeless shelters and charities will provide a small comfort to those needing support.”
