Spitfire shoots for the moon in stunning picture by Warwickshire resident

Leamington Editorial 3rd May, 2021   0

DUSKY skies gave way to the sight of a World War II aircraft flying high against a waxing moon in this shot taken by an Observer reader.

The image of a Supermarine Spitfire ML407 or ‘The Grace Spitfire’, with the moon as its backdrop, was captured by Warwickshire resident Gary Heath.

The shot captured its flight – one of the first in public this year – during the ‘SkySwarm’ event at Stanford Hall.

The Grace Spitfire was originally built at Castle Bromwich in early 1944 and served in the last year of World War II. The aircraft is so-called after design engineer Nick Grace who restored it to flying condition in the 1980s.
