Orthopaedic consultant urges former patients to 'walk a mile with a smile' for charity

AN ORTHOPAEDIC consultant at Warwick Hospital is encouraging former patients to walk ‘a mile with a smile’.

Stephen Young has organised the ‘Sky Walk’, which will take place at Warwick Racecourse in September, and will consist of a mile walk around the course, as well as stalls and activities during the event.

Mr Young, who has worked for the department since 1988, wanted to raise money for its charitable fund by gathering people who have had broken bones mended or joints replaced by the team, to walk ‘a mile with a smile’ together.

Mr Young said: “I have been part of the orthopaedic team at Warwick Hospital for over 30 years. When I started there were only three consultants. Now we are 13, who of course could not do the job without the excellent support of the wider orthopaedic team. We continually strive to improve the service we give to patients. “The aim of the Sky Walk is to bring the orthopaedic team and patients together and to raise funds for our charitable fund. I can’t think of a better way to do this, and celebrate my time at Warwick, than seeing people from the local community coming together for a walk around the racecourse.”

The event, which takes place on Saturday September 12, is open to anyone, and the public is encouraged to sign up and bring their friends and family.
