A RAILWAY bridge in Leamington is set to get an artistic facelift.

The Network Rail-owned bridge on Princes Drive, next to the recycling centre, is set for a makeover ahead of next summer’s Commonwealth Games.

The bridge sits on a major road between Leamington’s Victoria Park, where the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Lawn Bowl and Para Bowl events will take place, and Warwick’s St Nicolas Park, which will be the start and finish of the cycling road races. The races will also take in Princes Drive.

Designs, described as ‘artistic patterns’, have been created by Jennie Moncur, an established and well-respected artist, who studied at the prestigious Goldsmiths and Royal College of Art and who is also the creative director of Vitsoe, the international furniture company which has its headquarters and production company in Leamington.

Warwick District Council (WDC) has approved funding of up to £121,000 towards the overall cost of the the project which will be some £740,000, including repair works, which will be met by Network Rail.
