RACING Club Warwick’s walking football team triumphed at a tournament in the Canary Islands at the end of last month.

The club’s over 55’s team took part in an eight team tournament in the Canary Islands and returned with the trophy.

Teams from Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Lanzarote joined the Warwick teams at the tournament.

And Warwick’s Peter ‘the cat’ Hartley conceded just five goals to help Warwick clinch the trophy with Racing worthy winners.

Graham Pickup scored the winning goals in both the semi-final and final with Mike Southam the Player of the Tournament.

First team captain Andy Owen said: “All of the players across both teams played really well but Mike was exceptional in all five games and man-marked Corralejo’s best player in the final, which we won 1-0.

“The whole team would like to thank Chairman Gordon Dando and club legend Nigel ‘TLG’ Adams for making the trip possible.”

Dando added: “We would like to thank Gary Vella for integrating us into the football club.

“Walking football has created a social outlet that is helping members get fitter, improve their mental wellbeing and provide life long friendships.”
