RACING Club Warwick secured promotion to Step Four for the first time in over 30 years with a 2-1 victory against Aylestone Park in the play-off final.

The Racers made home advantage count as Louie Monaghan and Josh Willis struck either side of the break at Townsend Meadow before Samuel Hollis netted a late consolation for the visitors.

Warwick finished above Aylestone in the United Counties League Premier Division South table on goal difference with the latter side the last team to beat the Racers on home soil back in September.

In front of more than 1,000 supporters, Monaghan sent a header wide early on before Sam Lomax superbly tipped a shot over the bar at the other end.

However, the Racers broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when Monaghan unleashed a low drive into the bottom left corner after collecting Willis’s pass and cutting inside 30-yards from goal.

Shortly after half time, Matt Langham flashed a shot narrowly wide for Aylestone before Simeon Cobourne had a tame effort saved.

Warwick doubled their lead on 68 minutes as Willis rose highest to head in Callum Carsley’s excellent corner to put the home side in command.

Monaghan hit the post later in the half before Cobourne saw his shot saved as Aylestone set up a grandstamd finish when Hollis fired an effort through the legs of Lomax with one minute left to play.

However, the Racers held on as boss Scott Easterlow secured a second promotion in the space of five seasons.

Warwick finish the season against Aston Villa on Wednesday, May 15 in the Birmingham Senior Cup final with kick-off at 7.30pm at Villa Park.
