RACING Club Warwick’s promotion hopes are all but over after the Racers were edged out 3-2 at home by champions elect Walsall Wood in an Easter Monday thriller.

The Racers came from two goals down to level the game in the second half courtesy of strikes from Josh Parsons and Cameron Ebbutt only for Jai Verma to score a late winner for the league leaders at Townsend Meadow.

And the result leaves Warwick in third place in the Midland Football League Premier Division table, five points behind Lye Town who occupy the only play-off place with two matches left to play.

The game was played in front of a bumper crowd of 524 spectators as goals from Daniel Gyasi and Carter Lycett allowed the visitors to head into the break with a comfortable lead.

However, Warwick halved the deficit when Parsons scored a delightful chip from 35-yards out before Ebbutt slammed the ball home to equalise as Racing scored twice in the space of eight minutes.

There was still time for Walsall to snatch the points on 88 minutes as Verma struck at the death just moments after Jay D Lionga was sent off for the home side.

Warwick are next in action away at Stourport Swifts on Saturday, April 15 with kick-off at 3pm at Walshes Meadow.
