A trio of classical music concerts in Warwick and Leamington

Leamington Editorial 5th Mar, 2018   0

HAYDN, Schubert and Bach provide the inspiration for a series of classical concerts in Warwick and Leamington.

The London Hayden Quartet returns to Leamington to play in the Investec International String Quartet Concert series at the Pump Rooms on Friday March 9.

The concert will feature two string quartets by Haydn – the Quartet in F Opus 17 No 2 and Quartet in G Opus 64 No 4 –

together with the Quartet in G Opus 10 No 6 by Moravian composer Pavel Vranitsky, who moved to Vienna to study with Haydn.

The London Haydn Quartet is one of the world’s leading period instrument string quartets. Founded in 2000, its members’ passion for Haydn and quartets of the classical era has seen them tour the world. The Quartet is also recording all of Haydn’s 80 quartets for Hyperion.

The Bach Players return to Warwick on Tuesday March 13 to perform in the final concert of the Baxi Early Music Season at St Mary’s Church.

With Easter at the end of March, an appropriate programme has been put together with the Stabat Mater by Luigi Boccherini at its centre. That will be interspersed with movements from Haydn’s Seven Last Words on the Cross, and a short cantata by an composer Johann Fischer.

Nicolette Moonen, who founded the Bach Players in 1996, will direct the concert, which will also feature acclaimed soprano Rachel Elliott,

The Schubert Ensemble of London perform the final concert in the Leamington Music Winter Season at Leamington’s Spa Centre on Sunday March 18.

The concert, part of the ensemble’s farewell tour, will include Johann Nepomuk Hummel’s Quintet in E flat, Opus 87, written for violin, viola, cello, double bass and piano, the instrumental line up that Schubert later used for his popular Trout Quintet, which ends the programme. They will also perform Mozart’s Piano Quartet in E flat K493.

Tickets for all Leamington Music concerts are on sale at the box office at the Visitor Information Centre at Leamington’s Pump or online at www.royalspacentreandtown hall.co.uk. Tickets for The Bach Players concert are also available at St Mary’s Church Gift Shop.
