Afternoon tea makes welcome return to Warwick Castle

AFTERNOON tea is making a welcome return to Warwick Castle just in time for the tourist attraction’s 1,100th anniversary.

With sounds of tea cups clattering, people chatting and a string quartet filling the state dining room, high tea is – as it always was – served by the very best waiting staff.

The splendid dining room has hosted seven monarchs, US president Theodore Roosevelt and several film stars including Grave Kelly and Cary Grant over the years.

And from the butler to the well-skilled maids, everyone shares in its historical importance as they enjoy dainty cucumber sandwiches without the crusts, scones jam and cream, and an array of tasty patisseries all served up on an elegant cake stand.

Tea is served in two sittings at 1.30pm and 3.30pm and costs £49 per person or for those wanting something extra special, £59 with Tattinger champagne.

With fireballs being launched from the Trebuchet and birds of prey flying across the lawn, every show and attraction has been re-imagined to give guests the experience monarchs and guests before them encountered.

Entrance to the Castle is included in the price.
