THE CALIDORE String Quartet kick off their European tour at Leamington’s Pump Rooms on November 3.
Now based in New York, the quartet was formed in 2010 in Los Angeles. An amalgamation of California and doré (French for ‘golden’), the ensemble’s name represents its reverence for the diversity of culture and the strong support it received from its original home – the ‘golden state’.
The programme for the Leamington Music Winter Season concert includes Beethoven’s Quartet in A (Op 18 No 5), Korngold’s Quartet No 3 (in D, Op 34), written in 1945 when he was already an Oscar-winner for his film music, and Mendelssohn’s Quartet in E minor (Op 44 No 2).
