Celebrating the good old days of music hall at Leamington's Loft Theatre

THE GOOD old days of music hall are celebrated at Leamington’s Loft Theatre

Already well known to Loft audiences as an actor for his leading roles in productions such as Nell Gwynn, The Vortex and The Importance of Being Earnest, Sean Glock adds another string to his artistic bow devising, directing and taking part in the first production of the new season – The Theatre of Music Hall.

Inspired by childhood memories of his father’s love of the genre, and cemented by his own admiration for those artistes who honed their skill and talents through decades-long apprenticeships in music hall, Sean and his cast have put together a celebration of ‘The Good Old Days’.

While some of the first true entertainment superstars such as Marie Lloyd, Harry Lauder and Florrie Ford may have faded from memory, many of the 20th century greats who honed their talent in the rough and tumble of the music hall and whose careers stretched on through review into the television era are still fondly remembered – the likes of Hattie Jacques, Ken Dodd and Kenneth Williams.

Sean said: “We hope that the audience will join in, singing along and have a wonderful time as today’s talented performers bring the humour and pathos of the music halls back to life’.”

Any members of the audience who feel inspired to dress up in costume will also receive a warm welcome – although it’s not a prerequisite.

The Theatre of Music Hall runs from September 25 to October 5.
