THE ENCHANTED Pig is coming to Warwick.
Jonathan Dove’s opera is being staged by Royal Birmingham Conservatoire at The Dream Factory on Sunday (June 25).
Described as “a magical family show for children aged eight to 80″, the story is based on Romanian and Norwegian folk tales.
While the King is away at war, his three daughters enter a forbidden room in the castle where they find a book that predicts their fortunes. Two will marry a prince, but the third will marry a pig.
The cast of ten solo singers, plus chorus and orchestra will be conducted by Anthony Kraus and the opera is directed by Stuart Barker.
Dove has written more than 30 operas and his biggest success has been Flight, which was performed at the Glyndebourne Festival in 1998. The Enchanted Pig debuted in 2006, since when it has been staged across the world.
Kraus was for 14 years with Opera North as chorus master and head of music, conducting several productions.
Barker, who directed the Charpentier and Offenbach operas seen at The Dream Factory last year, is founder member of Third Hand, the UK’s only dedicated puppet opera company and artistic director of Minotaur Music Theatre, for which he has directed over 20 operas.
The performance starts at 7pm, but audiences are invited to come early with picnics from 5.30pm. There is a spacious foyer if the weather is not so good.
