Ex Cathedra return to Warwick

EX CATHEDRA give the final concert of the 2022/23 Leamington Music Winter Season at Warwick’s St Mary’s Church on Tuesday March 21.

Baroque Passion provides the perfect programme in the weeks preceding Easter.

The music from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries is by French, German, Italian and Bohemian composers, with England represented by one of its greatest composers – Henry Purcell. His work is Hear My Prayer.

The singers will be accompanied on chamber organ and the cello. This is played by Andrew Skidmore who begins each half of the concert with a Bach Prelude for solo cello. The concert culminates in Bach’s motet Komm, Jesu, komm.

Festival director Richard Phillips said: “The Winter Season of monthly early music concerts at St Mary’s Warwick has been going since the mid-1990s and with the beautiful setting and acoustic of this wonderful church, the series has a national reputation in its field.

“We have had a varied range of performers here this season. Other leading vocal groups – The Marian Consort and the Gesualdo Six; the UK’s best known viol group – Fretwork; an entertaining Christmas Concert from The City Musick and, in contrast and bringing in a different audience, the brilliant young German recorder player Tabea Debus.”
