FOXES are in the firing line in Foxfinder at Leamington’s Loft Theatre.
Dawn King’s award-winning drama takes place in an Orwellian future England, where a paranoid government supervises food supplies by intrusively examining family farms for contamination by feared foxes.
Promulgated by a government anxious to exert complete control over its people by fear, foxes have been hunted down to the point of extinction and have become a symbol of menace and anarchy widely regarded as responsible for all social ills.
Farmers Sam and Judith Covey are struggling to come to terms with the recent death of their young son, as a result of which output on their farm has fallen behind assigned quotas.
When William Bloor, a government Foxfinder, arrives to investigate a suspected contamination by foxes their anxiety increases.
Indoctrinated from an early age, Bloor is driven by his education and belief that the fox threatens man’s civilization.
But as his investigations proceed, events occur that change the course of all their lives.
Director Tom O’Connor said: “This is a clever and compelling play with an original and disquieting script. It is an arresting and individual work that shines out as a beacon of all that is best in modern theatre.”
The production runs from May 2 to 12.
