MADE in 48 Hours presents The Misadventures of Hercules at Kenilworth’s Priory Theatre on Sunday (July 27).
The show follows haphazard demi-God Hercules as he travels on his many adventures trying to find out the truth about his parentage and who he really is.
The Made in 48 Hours team’s mission is to put on a show over the course of the weekend.
The scripts – which are pre-written – are kept from the eyes of the cast until the chosen weekend when they are handed out. The actors then have from 7pm Friday until curtain goes up on the Sunday evening to learn their lines and rehearse the play under the watchful eye of director Sam Harris.
Meanwhile, in the same time-frame, the hard-working backstage and technical crew are busy designing and rigging the lights and sound, painting the set, finding the props and pulling together the costumes.
Sam, one of the founders of Made in 48 Hours, has been organising these productions on an annual basis for the last 14 years.
She said: “We started out with just a combined cast and crew of ten and it’s wonderful that we’re not only still going but also to see how much we’ve grown over the years.
“I have never been able to work out how the cast manage to learn their lines so quickly. It’s amazing what you can retain. But sometimes people forget stuff and we have to get out of it which always seems to give the audience a good laugh.
“This year we have the added challenge of a different theatre, something which we are all looking forward. The Priory have been so welcoming and enthusiastic about having us and we are delighted to be performing there this year.”
As always proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to charity, and this year’s show will be in aid of Coventry and Warwickshire’s Breast Cancer Unit Appeal.
