Has a Gloucestershire Team Ever Won the FA Cup?

To date, a football team from Gloucestershire has never won the FA Cup trophy. Bristol City have come the closest, losing out to Manchester United in the final way back in the 1908/1909 season. The fact that a Gloucestershire team hasn’t reached a final in over 115 years is a testament to just how difficult the competition is.

 


Who has Won the Most FA Cups?

London-based Arsenal have won the most FA Cups out of any British team. With an impressive 14 trophies in their cabinet. Arsenal are flying in this year’s Premier League season, with fans desperate to buy Arsenal tickets to see the team in action, so they are certainly strong contenders to pick up another FA Cup.

In second place is Manchester United, who have won the FA Cup 12 times. Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham are in joint third place, each holding eight FA Cup trophies.

 

Are there any Gloucestershire Teams Left in the FA Cup?

The third round of the FA Cup has just been completed, and we have seen just one Gloucestershire team progress into the fourth round. Bristol City overcame a replay with Swansea, winning 2 – 1 to secure progression to the next stage of the tournament. Gloucestershire team Forest Green were knocked out in the third round, suffering a 2 – 1 loss at home to Birmingham.

 

Do Bristol City Have a Chance?

Bristol City have been drawn against West Brom in the next round of the FA Cup. This is certainly a tough tie, West Brom currently sit sixth in the Championship league, while Bristol

City are way down at 17th. However, the draw could have been much worse, they could easily have to face a Premier League giant, so they still have a decent chance of progressing.

 

How Important is the FA Cup to Gloucestershire Teams?

The Premier League is the ultimate aim for all English football teams. However, the financial disparity between Premier League and non-Premier League teams is so great that it is becoming increasingly difficult for any smaller team to break through. This is why competitions like the FA Cup are so important. Anything can happen in a one-off game and, as we have seen in the past, footballing minnows have every chance of making history and defeating a footballing titan.
