TALISMAN Theatre in Kenilworth is preparing for the kick off of new production Jumper For Goalposts.

Tom Wells’ adult comedy tells the story of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender 5-a-side team Barely Athletic as it progresses through a season, all told in the dilapidated splendour of muncipal changing rooms.Team coach Viv (Dawn Spencer-Morris) is desperate to beat the lesbians to the league title. On the way they not only have to battle with the other teams, they have to be a team themselves.

Busker Geoff (Martin Donaldson) wants the headline at the Hull Pride gig but really, really needs to improve his rendition of Smiths’ classics.

Danny (Joshua Pink) and Luke (Connor Cunningham) are on the verge of an affair but neither of them wants to put the “ball in the net”.

And goalie Joe (Phil Spencer) is trying to deal with deep grief caused by the loss of his partner.

The action with occasional voice-overs from the theatre’s own James Alexander Gordon (Mike Barham).

Director, Christine Carpenter, describes the play as “a life-affirming, big-hearted rom-com,” and “ultimately a charming story of people finding their ways”.

The show runs from September 7 to 12.
