FILM fans are being urged to give their backing to the Leamington Underground Cinema Festival.
Last year’s inaugural festival proved a big hit, and the second LUC – featuring screenings of independently made films, together with a short film competition and video game prize – will again be taking place at venues around the town from October 7 to 11.
The aim is to put Leamington on the film festival map, and already there have been 1,300 entries for the short film prize from over 80 countries.
Organisers are keen to see the festival become an annual fixture of Leamington’s cultural calendar, and are crowd-funding the festival using Kickstarter, giving people the opportunity to buy their festival pass in advance, or for organisations and businesses to sponsor the event in exchange for publicity, with even an opportunity to help judge the short film prize up for grabs.
Organisers have so far raised 60 per cent of the £3,000 target – largely thanks to Aspect Consultants and Emerald IT who have already pledged to sponsor two festival prizes.
