AN INTERNATIONALLY-renowned photographer was more than a little impressed by pictures taken by members of Leamington Spa Photographic Society (LSPS).
Landscape photographer Charlie Waite last year gave a well-attended talk on his art at Leamington’s All Saints parish church.
The lecture, open to the public, had been organised by LSPS – and since then Charlie has shown a keen interest in in the work of the society.
He had planned to visit the LSPS annual exhibition held at the church in May, showcasing the best of members’ images including all the winners of its annual competition.
Unable to attend because of work commitments, Charlie, whose company Light and Land runs photographic workshops in this country and abroad, asked to be sent digital images of every picture in the exhibition.
He was initially planning to just select his ten favourites, but having viewed all 179 images, Charlie said: “I have seen some remarkable photographs indeed, and such is their very high standard, I couldn’t possibly choose only ten.”
He picked his 33 favourites (including those pictured), but stressed: “I must reiterate that the overall standard was absolutely superb.”
Now Charlie’s selection is available as an online gallery by visiting the LSPS public website at www.lsps.org.uk and clicking on the annual exhibition poster before scrolling down to Charlie Waite’s Picks.
LSPS committee member Richard Earp said: “We are hugely grateful to Charlie for taking the time to do this. Support for LSPS from such a prominent figure in the photography world is quite something.”
