The plans span half a century during one of the bloodiest chapters in British history – The War of the Roses which saw fathers fighting against sons, and neighbour pitted against neighbour as the houses of Lancaster and York fought for the crown.
Thirty-six young actors aged 16 to 19 will play more than 170 different roles between them in an interactive saga where audiences and actors engage together. Audiences will have the chance to choose which house to support, and which contender to the throne gets their vote.
With heroes and villains – Shakespeare’s trilogy had it all 400 years before today’s box set series.
George R.R.Martin, the creator of the acclaimed tv series Game of Thrones, when asked what his inspiration for the show said his starting point was The Wars of the Roses and the divisions of the houses, the kingdom and the quest for the throne.
Games and Thrones – Henry Vl opens for two weeks of performances at the Dream Factory on Saturday April 23 – Shakespeare birthday and the day of his death.
The following month it will play further performances at St Mary’s Church where Richard Earl of Warwick ‘The Kingmaker’, who features prominently in the Henry Vl plays, is actually buried.
