Royal Spa Centre, Leamington
Review by Sophie Heaviside
GLEEFUL cries of ‘it’s behind you’ and ‘oh yes it is’ ring out around the Spa Centre once again as this year’s pantomime offering gets Leamington into the festive spirit.
And the only person who will be nodding off during the show is sleeping beauty herself – known as Princess Rosa – as Imagine Theatre out-do themselves with the perfect mix of comedy, music and outlandish costumes.
Audiences will be transported to a land far far away where the King and Queen ask for their one wish to have a baby to come true. Their wish is granted but at a price – the evil enchantress Carraboss is to be the child’s godmother.
The King and Queen upset the evil witch and are forced to send their daughter into hiding until her 16th birthday with the good fairy Gabrielle, Josh the jester and Dame Dolly Doubtphart – the ‘p’ is silent!
But before their plan to avoid Carraboss’ curse on Rosa can come to completion she and her evil sidekick Fran trick the princess into pricking her finger on a spinning wheel.
While helping to save the day Dame Dolly is keeping her eye out for a new man so lock up your husbands and sons if you don’t want them being whisked off their feet – literally!
Crowd favourites J P McCue and Sean Dodds return for another year as the comedic duo of Dame Dolly and Josh, singing, dancing and making plenty of mess!
With plenty of slapstick comedy for the kids and jokes for the big kids this is yet another perfect panto offering for the whole family.
Sleeping Beauty runs until December 31.
