REVIEW: Warwick Castle at Christmas

Leamington Editorial 10th Dec, 2018   0

IT’S beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Warwick Castle.

The castle has pulled out all the stops to create its Christmas wonderland – with a medieval twist.

The tree is up, the halls are decked and Father Christmas’ elves have taken over the Great Hall and the festive season is in full swing.

There’s a meet the falconer display, Christmas-themed horrible history maze and story-time that would bring out the festive spirit even in Ebenezer Scrooge himself.

The birds of prey make sure crowds are wowed as they swoop across the riverside arena and around the castle before heading back through the trees and over people’s heads before landing gracefully back in the arena.

Inside, the castle is bedecked in traditional decorations and it is a sight to behold with presents filling the base and baubles and lights as far as the eye can see.

But for my boy the magic was listening to Father Christmas’ stories and letters from children who claimed not to have been that naughty this year.

The Victorian library was filled with festive cheer when the children were shown the bells worn by the reindeer and the sound of Jingle Bells echoed around the room.

Before going to meet the man himself all the children – and adults – gathered round excitedly to hear a special reading of the iconic festive story, The Night Before Christmas, by one of the elves.

So if you’re struggling to find your festive spirit among the gift-hunting, crowd-filled streets and stresses of organising the family celebrations where better to rediscover it than in the glorious surroundings of Warwick Castle?
