Saw Doctors heading to Leamington Assembly

ALL is now well with The Saw Doctors who will heading back to Leamington Assembly next month.

The Irish rockers were forced to cancel their winter tour due to lead singer Davy Carton needing a minor throat operation.

He has recovered well and the tour has been rescheduled with the Leamington gig now taking place on Friday April 28.

Davy said: “I’m looking forward to getting back on the road again with The Saw Doctors in April to play all the rescheduled concerts from last winter.”

Formed in County Galway in 1986, the band have enjoyed huge success in their native Ireland, and have travelled equally well, building a loyal fan base across both the Irish Sea in Britain, and the Atlantic in the USA, and across a far few other seas also.

And while their studio recordings – albums and singles, including three Irish number ones – have won may plaudits, their reputation has been cemented on stages across the world. Their rousing energy-fuelled live performances have become the stuff of legend.

That live energy was captured on 2004 live album and DVD, both titled Live in Galway, recorded at the city’s Black Box Theatre.

A follow-up live album, New Year’s Day, again captured the band at the Black Box Theatre, this time on New Year’s Day in 2005, and three years later they released Live At The Melody Tent, recorded in America.

They have also released seven studio albums, and various compilations, and were back in the studio recording again last year.

In spring 2013, the band announced a break from touring, initially for a year, but it was not until last summer that fans got a chance to see them on stage again, only for the winter dates to be cancelled owing to Davy’s medical condition.

But now they are back.

Guitarist Leo Moran said: “We regretted not being able to play for all our loyal and faithful UK fans this winter. Davy needed some more time to recuperate and rehab his badly-damaged vocal cords, but we are looking forward to getting back on the road to play all the rescheduled shows.’’
