THE ARCADIA Quartet give final concert this season in Leamington Music’s monthly series of International String Quartets at the Pump Rooms on March 17.

The Romanian quartet will play Haydn’s Quartet Op 33 No 4 and Beethoven’s Quartet Op 59 No 1 from the ‘Razumovsky’ set and, in between, Quartet No 15 by Weinberg.

The quartet was first invited by Leamington Music in 2013, having won the 2012 London International String Quartet Competition the year before.

Leamington Music has put on most of the winners of the prestigious competition of recent years, including the Esmé Quartet from Korea in 2019. The 2023/24 Leamington Music Winter Season will open on October 6 with the latest winners, the Berlin-based Leonkoro Quartet.

Before its win in London, the Arcadia Quartet won competitions in Hamburg and Almere and, in 2014, won the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition.

The quartet has performed throughout the United Kingdom and the continent and also in North America, Japan, and China. It has a residency in Bucharest and annually broadcasts six concerts on the national Romanian radio.

The 2022/23 Leamington Music Winter Season ends on March 21 when Ex Cathedra returns to St Mary’s Church Warwick.

The 2023 Leamington Music Festival based at the Royal Pump Rooms, with two concerts in the nearby church of All Saints, runs from April 27 to May 1, when the Sacconi Quartet gives the last of 13 concerts over the five days.

The Martinů Quartet from the Czech Republic returns to the Pump Rooms on May 13, four years after its last appearance there and in Warwick and, in June, the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Chamber Choir and Opera are involved in two events to bring the whole annual programme to a well-supported conclusion.
