THE UNDERTONES will be celebrating the 45th anniversary of their iconic hit single Teenage Kicks at The Assembly in Leamington on Saturday October 7.
Having formed in Northern Ireland in 1974, they learnt their trade by listening to mail-order records, reading one of the few copies of NME that made it to their home city of Derry and listening to John Peel’s BBC Radio 1 show.
Practising in their bedrooms eventually led to the release of Teenage Kicks in 1978 on Terri Hooley’s Good Vibrations label based in Belfast.
A copy was sent to legendary DJ John Peel who liked the track so much he played it twice in a row on his radio show, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Fast forward to 2023 and the band are embarking on a UK tour which aside from Teenage Kicks, will include other favourites such as Jimmy Jimmy, My Perfect Cousin and Wednesday Week.
They will be supported at The Assembly by the Tom Robinson Band.
