Warwick bar’s unique business concept goes online

Leamington Editorial 20th Jan, 2023   0

A GIN bar in Warwick is celebrating national growth 18 months after opening by taking its unique pick ‘n’ mix flavour concept online for the first time.

That Gin Company, which has a bar in Swan Street, is thought to be the first in the country to offer the bottled bespoke flavours by post – a theme which they have also adopted for their new gift range.

As part of a rebrand of their gins, the team is now able to offer customers anywhere in the U.K. the ability to create and purchase their own unique flavour infusions in 50ml, 250ml and 500ml bottles.

When I was given the opportunity to sample some of the gin I jumped at the chance.

That Gin Company owner, Steve Bazell, very kindly put a gift set together for me and I was able to sample three bottles of of gin over Christmas.

The flavours were pineapple, hazelnut and nutmeg, and clementine and cranberry.

What I liked about the gin was the way the flavours didn’t overpower whatever mixer you used.

All three flavours we’re easily drinkable, and made a nice change from the standard pink gin that is so popular now.

My favourite flavour was definitely the pineapple, I wasn’t sure at first because I thought the sweetness would make it hard to find a mixer that worked but I found it pleasantly surprising.

The sweetness of the pineapple mixed well with the tangy taste of the tonic I used. It really enhanced the flavours of both the gin and the tonic and would make a great present for seasoned gin drinkers who perhaps wanted something different.

The overall presentation of the box that was delivered was lovely.

Each gin was a different vibrant colour, and had handwritten flavour tags tied around the rim which gave the gift a personal touch.

Also unveiled as part of the rebrand, are the Gin Gift Sets which include three 250ml flavoured gins and the Cocktail Sets which are supplied with enough ingredients for five cocktails, plus a mini shaker.

That Gin Company owner Steve Bazell said: “These range from the traditional juniper and floral gins through to fruity offerings such as Pineapple, Sicilian Orange, Lemon, and Passionfruit and, for spice lovers, Pink Pepper, Black Pepper and Cardamon or Jalapenos gin.

“Those with a sweet tooth can also choose from a desserts range, including Cherry Bakewell, Black Forest Gateau and Biscoffi.

“There’s lots of companies who sell a selection of different miniatures and gins but what makes us different from the rest is that we can offer unique gin flavours. We’re expecting our bespoke miniatures to be particularly popular as wedding favours, for example.”

The Warwick entrepreneur finally opened the doors to his business in May last year following a string of delays caused by the pandemic. Since then the bar has gone on to become a popular haunt for local gin-lovers.

As well as gin, visitors can select from a range of cocktails, wines and spirits, plus a selection of alcohol-free tipples for the drivers.

There’s also the option of bottling your new-found favourite gin to take home.

That Gin & Cocktail Bar is open 5pm-11pm on Wednesday and Thursday; 2pm-midnight on Friday and Saturday.
