COMMUNITY as a superpower is the theme of this year’s Refugee Week in Warwickshire.
Running from June 16 to June 22, the week is a chance for people across the county to come together in recognition of the power of connection, support, and shared belonging.
From art exhibitions and storytelling projects to school activities and community meals, residents are joining in to show that community is about people looking out for one another, no matter where they’re from.
The artwork for ’My superpower for a kinder community’ art competition will be on display at Leamington library throughout the week.
This year’s competition invited children and young people to explore how their everyday superpowers—like kindness, empathy, and sharing can help build a more welcoming community. Through art, they reflected on the importance of inclusion and how small actions can make a big difference.
A photography, play and simple acts workshop is taking place at Rugby Art Gallery with artist Sam Ivin at 11am on June 17.
An evening of music, storytelling and shared conversation is being held at Christ Church in Rugby from 7pm on June 17
There will also be a Community as a Superpower celebration event at the Old Shire Hall on World Refugee Day on June 20.
Everyone is welcome to join in and celebrate the work of volunteers who have welcomed refugees into their homes and show solidarity with those who have sought sanctuary in Warwickshire.
Drop in to explore cultural recipes, enjoy traditional Ukrainian music, or join Playbox Theatre’s storytelling session in the Moomins corner between 10am and 4pm.
