A PROJECT which saw the transformation of a derelict pub and school in Leamington into a community arts space has won an award.
Chosen from over 300 entries, the redevelopment of the former Stoneleigh Arms pub on Clemens Street and Old School on Court Street was among 46 successful projects to receive a highly commended at the Civic Trust annual awards ceremony last month.
The prestiguous awards celebrate outstanding architecture, planning, and design that make a positive contribution to local communities.
The recreation of the the cluster of derelict buildings and underutilized car park in Leamington’s old town, was led by Warwick District Council and project partners Complex Development Projects and funded through the government’s Future High Streets scheme.
WDC’s place spokesperson Coun Chris King said: “I am thrilled that the the council’s visionary and ambitious masterplan to reshape this part of Leamington into an inclusive cultural and arts community has been nationally recognised.
“This achievement would not have been possible without the input of our partners including Complex Development Projects, Intervention Architecture, Waypm, Kavannagh Construction and Edge Structural Engineering.
“Thanks to their expertise and forsight this exciting new space is now a thriving home for local creatives and businesses, delivering a vibrant programme of events and workshops for the local community.”
