AN AWARD-WINNING carpenter from is carving a name for himself.

Matt Brown, who studies furniture making and wood machining at Leamington College, scooped a ‘Trainee of the Year’ title at the British Woodworking Federation Awards.

The 35-year-old was recognised for his achievements, commitment and personal development, beating two other hopefuls to the top.

And it is not the first time Matt’s skills have been recognised as he was chosen to create a bench for the grounds of Kenilworth Castle.

The talented student said: “It feels amazing to be recognised for all the hard work I have put in, and a fantastic way to end the course.

“The training I’ve received has put me in a position where I feel confident stepping into my new role as trainee cabinet maker at N.E.J. Stevenson.

“I returned to college in September to complete the next level of the course and am looking forward to further developing my skills and craftsmanship.”
