BUDDING builders from Cubbington Primary School got to visit homes under construction.
The year 6 pupils were invited for a tour of Bellway’s Hazelwood development for a lesson in housebuilding.
The youngsters were given hi-vis jackets and hard hats to wear before looking around homes at various stages of construction on the site, off Coventry Road in the village.
Blair Ellicott, Year 6 teacher at the school, said: “The children had a lot of fun looking at the Hazelwood development and felt really welcomed by the team that led them. They loved wearing the hats and hi-vis jackets as well as seeing the equipment used on the site.
“The team that led the visit were incredibly kind and patient with the children, who took turns to walk to a sectioned area and ask questions about housebuilding and construction.
“The new development is quite close to the school and we’re grateful to Bellway for reaching out and inviting us to visit the site. It was interesting to see how homes are constructed and see the different materials used.
“We pride ourselves on providing what we believe to be a high standard of primary education for children not only in Cubbington village but also for children from several outlying villages.
“Year 6 is a hardworking and talented class. The children love being outside and exploring new ideas, so the site visit was a great opportunity to experience a working environment outside the classroom.”
Bellway is building 133 homes at Hazelwood with 80 homes for private sale and 53 affordable homes available for local people through low-cost rent or shared ownership.
This scheme will also generate more than £800,000 in contributions to support education, policing, the NHS, library services, biodiversity, a new bus stop and sports facilities.
