Calls made to urgently improve NHS funding

Leamington Editorial 10th Feb, 2018   0

CALLS have been made in Leamington for improved NHS funding.

South Warwickshire Keep Our NHS Public (SWKONP) was joined by Warwick and Leamington MP Matt Western outside Leamington Town Hall where people signed a petition to demand an end to privatisation and cuts.

Mr Western said: “I have relied on our NHS services and I know the value of supporting our hardworking NHS staff. It has been evident since the autumn that our hospitals would be facing a crisis this winter, a prediction made a few months ago by the head of the NHS, who was demanding £4billion be injected urgently into the service.

“We need to see more money to improve care outcomes and improve levels of recruitment and retention. No one should have to wait for weeks in agony because the NHS is stretched to breaking point. We need to give the service the funding it needs.”

The demonstration was part of the a national event called ‘NHS Crisis Fix it Now’ – which included a march of around 60,000 people in London, and some 50 demonstrations across the country.
