A NEW church has risen from the rubble of the old in Leamington.
Lillington Free Church, which was built on Cubbington Road in 1966, has made way for a new place of worship, together with 25 affordable homes.
And the church will be holding its official opening service on Saturday March 9 from 2.30pm. Warwick and Leamington MP Matt Western and Leamington mayor Heather Calver are both expected to attend.
Prior to the opening community groups will be showcasing their respective work from 10am to noon.
The Reverend James Church was looking forward to the opening.
He said: “The previous building was in need of a great deal of work to make it fit for modern purposes and, in the end, it made more sense to knock it down and start again.
“I have been amazed at the widespread interest and support for this project from our MP to local councillors and members of the general public. I am just so excited to welcome everyone, and to show the community just what we have to offer.
“It has been great to see the Leamington Observer covering the development of the new church building and housing over the past few months. We hope readers of the Observer will join with us to celebrate the opening of the new church building.”
The project was carried out by Deeley Construction in partnership with the church and housing association Orbit.
