A CLAVERDON grandad handled the heat of the toughest London Marathon to date.
David Phillips took on his 492nd marathon taking him one step closer to his overall target of 500.
It was the 74-year-old’s 18th London Marathon, and the hottest one on record, with the mercury pushing 25 degrees. Many runners did not complete the race in the harsh conditions.
But the chartered accountant said he kept drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated and thinking of the £10,000 he and his teammates had raised for the Brain and Spine Foundation this year.
Over his time running he has raised £117,000 for the charity.
He completed the marathon in six hours and 17 minutes.
