DECONSTRUCTION works are set to begin at the Covent Garden multi-storey car park in Leamington.
The car park building, which has been closed since 2023 for structural safety reasons. will be reduced in height and made structurally sound.
This is part of a project by Warwick District Council to bring the two lower levels of the car park back into use for long stay parking for up to 100 vehicles for the next two to three years.
To carry out this work safely, a section of the adjacent Covent Garden Surface Car Park will be temporarily closed to allow for the secure dismantling and removal of building materials from the site. This will reduce the capacity to 32 spaces.
DSM Demolition Limited (DSM) has been awarded the contract to undertake the demolition and associated works. They will take possession of the site from July 21 for a period of up to five months.
WDC’s neighbourhood spokesperson Coun Will Roberts said: “While longer term options are being considered for the Covent Garden gateway and for parking and infrastructure around Leamington town centre, we are pleased that after the demolition works have been completed; we are able to reintroduce additional parking to this key location including a secure area for
bicycles.”
“We are confident that the town’s car parks can accommodate the temporary reduction of parking spaces during the demolition but do however apologise for any inconvenience that these works may cause.”
