Dogs Trust supporters raise £14,000 at annual fun day

DOGS Trust supporters raised an impressive £14,000 at its annual fun day.

The sun shone on Hatton Country World for the event, which saw hundreds enjoy stalls, a fun dog show and a host of other activities.

Organisers from the Kenilworth branch, Jane Hirons and Helen Barlow were delighted with another successful event.

Jane said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to the local community and all of the supporters who turned up to help us raise money for the dogs in our care. We’d also like to say a huge thank you to anyone who donated raffle and tombola prizes. Their generosity made a huge contribution to the overall success of the day, allowing us to have another successful Fun Day.

“It was wonderful to see so many people and of course not forgetting all our four-legged-friends who attended — many of which were ex-residents that we were so happy to see doing so well.”

And the main event of the day was the Fun Dog Show – where eleven-year-old Great Dane Harry did not let age or the fact he only has one eye stop him from scooping the top prize of Best in Show.

Owner Rachael Fox said: “We’ve always known Harry was special ever since we rescued him at 11 months old.

“He’s been a doggy blood donor and while he’s now retired, he was previously a pro at Flyball and Agility and often wowed the judges when he competed in those events. The fact that he has now gone on to win Best in Show at Dogs Trust Kenilworth’s Fun Day just shows that the judges thought he was pretty special too. He had a great day out getting plenty of fuss, treats and attention and I’m very proud of him.”

Money raised on the day will go towards caring for abandoned and homeless dogs at the centre while they await their forever homes.
