A DRINK driver from Whitnash has narrowly avoided prison.
Nagra Makhan from Coppice Road was arrested in the early hours of the morning on December 9 in Clemens Street, Leamington. He had been spotted by CCTV operators driving down High Street in a manner which made them suspect he was drunk.
The 61-year-old was later charged but failed to provide a specimen for analysis. This offence was considered so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified.
Appearing at Leamington Magistrates Court on Friday January 19, he received an eight week prison sentence suspended for six months.
If he is to avoid going to jail, Makhan must comply with a 15 day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement within the supervision period.
He was also disqualified from driving for 32 months, and ordered to pay £135 costs and £154 Victim Surcharge.
