Eco-minded residents attend Warwick district Cop 27

ECO-MINDED residents came together for Warwick District Council’s COP27 event.

The event featured talks and presentations from several local community groups and organisations that have led the way in reducing the climate impact in their local community, including Kenilworth All Together Greener, Low Carbon Warwickshire, Bar Zero Barford and Heart of England Forest.

Attendees also heard about the range of work being undertaken by WDC on mitigation and adaptation as part of the Climate Change Action Programme, with the aim of ensuring South Warwickshire is low carbon by 2030.

The event was held the day before the start of COP27 in Egypt. The annual United Nations Climate Change Conference brought together leaders from across the world to work together to confront the climate crisis.

WDC climate change spokesman Alan Rhead said: “Our ambitious Climate Change Action Programme can only be achieved with the help and encouragement of local communities working together, and I was inspired by the work being done in the local community to tackle the devastating effects of climate change.

“As David Attenborough said, ‘We can do it; we must do it.’”

The event was recorded and is available to watch on the council’s website, alongside the presentation slides – www.warwickdc.gov.uk/COP27
