KENILWORTH Castle’s birds of prey will be swooping back in time for a Gothic Falconry event this weekend.
Falconry was more than a sport for the residents of the castle – it provided food for the dinner table.
And visitors to the tourist attraction on Saturday (November 12) and Sunday (November 13) will be able to see the impressive falcons in action as Raphael Historic Falconry blend flying demonstrations with storytelling.
The Victorian Gothic Revival period was a fascinating blend of old and new. While society was rapidly industrialising with steam power and machines there were many people who hankered after the simplicity of the Middle Ages.
And falconry-fans will be able to see the contrasts of the natural world through the eyes of the Victorians – as the falconers pit medieval myth and legend against 19th Century science and fact.
The Gothic Falconry event runs from 10am to 4pm each day.
