FIREFIGHTERS rescued a two adults and a baby after a block of flats filled with smoke.

Crews were called to Birch Meadow Close in Warwick at around 3.30pm yesterday (Monday) .

The kitchen of a first floor flat was ablaze but the family had managed to escape.

While firefighters searched the first floor and floors above they found two adults and a baby from a neighbouring property trying to get downstairs in zero visibility.

They were led to safety and left in the care of paramedics.

A Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The residents acted quickly on this occasion evacuating the property and calling 999. However, without working smoke alarms, you may not be so lucky.

“Please ensure that you have working smoke alarms on each floor of your home and have an escape plan in place. Remember – get out, stay out and call 999.”
