Former Casualty and Strictly Come Dancing star becomes patron of Warwickshire charity

A FORMER Casualty and Strictly Come Dancing star has become the new patron of a Warwickshire charity.

Community transport service VASA sees volunteers take passengers to appointments, including the most vulnerable for their Covid vaccinations.

And actor Patrick Robinson has joined the charity as patron after being introduced to its work by a volunteer and being left ‘moved’.

He has lived in Stratford since 1986 after being offered a contract with the RSC, and the town is where his children and grandchildren still live.

And he has not wasted time getting stuck into the role, spending time working on an overgrown patch of land which VASA is turning into a community allotment.

He said: “I’m so impressed with the friendly and safe door-to-door transport service which enables people to get to medical and social appointments. This service sits brilliantly with the work done out in the community to help reduce loneliness and isolation with memory clubs offered for people with early dementia.

“VASA works so hard to make sure clients have a fun and stimulating day, whilst giving their carers some extremely valuable time off.”

He hopes to bring energy and drive to the role of patron while being hands on with the charity.

He added: “I plan to support all those who need it, to do the work needed to make a huge positive difference to all those people who need our help.”
