MOVING tributes were paid to Stratford Town FC footballer Cody Fisher at his funeral.
Friends and family gathered at St Peter’s Church in Coughton near Alcester to remember the 23-year-old who was fatally stabbed on the dancefloor of The Crane nightclub in Digbeth on Boxing Day.
Cody’s girlfriend Jess Chatwin told the congregation he had “changed her life forever” when she met him in August 2019.
She continued: “Cody was brave, he was caring and always had the best advice. He was always my go-to and taught me not only so much about the world but also about myself.”
Cody’s mum, Tracey Fisher, described how close she and her son were. She said they had an “amazing bond” and “were truly best friends”.
A friend described Cody as “the life and soul of the party”.
Police were called to The Crane nightclub just before midnight on Boxing Day to a report of a stabbing.
Cody, a sports coach at St Gregory’s School in Stratford, was pronounced dead at the scene 30 minutes later.
A postmortem report revealed he had died of a stab wound.
Three people have been charged with his murder.
Reegan Anderson, 18, from Erdington, Kami Carpenter, 21, from Birmingham but of no fixed address, and Remy Gordon, 22, from Cofton Park Drive, will stand trial in July.
The Crane nightclub has had its licence revoked permanently since the murder.
The club’s licence had been suspended for 28 days after an interim meeting in December, but a Birmingham City Council licencing committee ordered the licence to be revoked after an application by West Midlands Police force.
More than 22,000 have to date also signed a petition aimed at making going out safer following Cody’s death.
The petition Cody’s Law seeks to make metal detectors and bleed kits a lawful requirement for clubs and event venues.
