Hardy garden-lovers turn out in Kenilworth despite torrential rain

HUNDREDS of hardy visitors braved the downpours for the open gardens event in Kenilworth.

Eleven gardens opened their gates to the public on Sunday June 18 for the National Garden Scheme.

And £3,400 was raised for cancer-nursing charities.

Warwickshire county organiser Liz Watson was among the dedicated garden owners welcoming visitors.

She said: “A lot of weather-wise people started early, but there were quite a few who determinedly went round all 11 gardens in the pouring rain. Their maps and tickets disintegrated and they got very wet so they deserve a special thank you.”
